Herbal Remedies For Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis also known as inflammatory bowel, involves the rectum and the entire colon. This autoimmune disease causes ulcers in the lining of the colon and rectum and gives rise to such symptoms as pain in the abdomen, weight loss, diarrhea, joint pain, sores on the skin, bleeding from the rectum, anemia, fatigue and loss of appetite.

The lining in the colon and rectum becomes inflamed and ulcers appear in areas where the inflammation has destroyed the healthy cells that line the colon. The main cause of this disease seems to be genetic factors.

Though it can happen at any age, it generally occurs between the ages of fifteen years to thirty years. Ulcerative colitis keeps recurring intermittently and the severity of the symptoms keeps varying. Some people have long periods of remission, when they are entirely free from the symptoms.
