10 Cancer-Causing Products That You Put On Your Body Every Morning

How well do you know the toiletries and cosmetic products you use every morning? The fact that they are popular or you have been using them for a long time do not make them completely safe.

Chances are that even the most ‘greenest’ product could contain cancerous ingredients. Here are 10 cancer-causing products that you should probably stay away from.

1. Toothpaste

Yes,the very toothpaste with which you begin each day can heighten your cancer risks. Most toothpastes are filled with fluorides, sodium lauryl sulfate, color dyes, and propylene glycol which are known to cause cancer. Your best bet will be to switch to an organic toothpaste or a non-fluoride chemical toothpaste.

2. Lipsticks

Lipsticks are doubly lethal as they contain toxic substances and also tend to get constantly ingested while you eat or drink something. If you realise that most lipsticks contain ample amounts of tar, petroleum distillates, Formaldehyde, Propylparaben and Polypropylene, you might never touch a lipstick again. Nowadays many organic lipsticks are being manufactured keeping in mind the best interests of their consumers.

3. Sunscreen

Sunscreen contains ingredients like Retinyl Palmitate which stimulates the growth of skin tumors and cancerous lesions. Recent studies suggest that sun exposure (vitamin D in particular) is the best solution to prevent skin cancer. Many scientists are also of the opinion that the the high SPF promoted by most of the brands is just a hoax. It is better to stick to a clear zinc sunscreen if you find it hard to live without one.

4. Moisturizers

Moisturizers contain numerous mineral oils, tars and arsenic that can cause skin cancer. Mineral oils are believed to cause scores of health conditions like rashes, burning sensation, swelling dizziness etc. Try using a solution of glycerin and water instead to moisturize your skin. You can also try out natural oils like coconut or almond.

5. Fairness Creams

Even the very base of fairness creams is flawed, as they promote fair skin as a necessity or even an advantage. Added to this is the fact that fairness creams are just cancer packaged in a tube for you. They contain large amounts of mercury in order to lighten the skin, the effects of which are still debatable. Why not try out a skin peel or some home remedies to get the same, if not better results?

6. Mascara

Brimming with toxic ingredients like aluminium, petrolatum, Formaldehyde, Retinyl Acetate, parabens and oil distillates, it’s wonder how many voluntarily apply mascara to their eyelashes, dangerously close to their eyes. If you are very particular about using mascara, then use the organic scent-free kind. Also remember to discard your mascara if it is more than 6 months old.

7. Hairspray

It’s best not to torture your hair unnecessarily as it is already exposed to numerous chemicals from your shampoo, conditioner, hair color etc. Hairspray is much more harmful to your hair, skin and the environment due to the presence of substances like shellac, Formaldehyde, Phthalates, denatured alcohol, and propylene glycol.

8. Talcum Powder

Talcum powder can give you great relief during those prickly hot summers, helps hide that oily T-zone and also keeps babies smelling sweet and fresh. But it is not as innocent as it seems. Some of its major components include magnesium silicate and asbestos which can cause ovarian cancer and respiratory disorders.

9. Deodorants

Deodorants are particularly harmful for women as the toxins prevalent in them can cause cancer in the underarms and breasts. The substances include aluminium, paraben, petroleum products, and Triclosan. These chemicals can cause serious damage to your metabolism and central nervous system.

10. Nail Polish

Nail art has become all the rage in the internet now. But how skin friendly are these nail products? The answer is, “not at all!”. Substances like Imidazolidinyl urea and DMDM hydantoin found in nail colors can produce Formaldehyde which can cause many side effects like cancer, allergies, asthma, depression, insomnia and dizziness.

No matter what how consumer-friendly the manufacturers deem these products, it is up to you to double check what is safe or harmful for you. The best solution is to stay away from anything that has a long ingredient list and to substitute all your favorite toiletries with their organic counterparts. Stay safe and healthy everyone!
